Home, arts and crafts and  style/fashion are the top three pinnings on Pinterest. Here is the interesting research about Pinterest done by RJ Metrics. The first category which people are pinning the most is Home with 17.2%. It followed by art and crafts (12.4%), style/fashion (11.7%), food (10.5%) and inspiration/education (9.0%).

  1. Those top 3 pinnings say a lot about what America is into these days. In January Pinterest boasted more than 11.7 million visitors in the U.S. and is now the country's 16th most visited Web site-ahead of CNN and the Huffington Post, according to Alexa, a traffic-ranking Web site. Tech-Crunch hailed Pinterest as the best new start-up of 2011.

  2. Pinterest is definitely the social media flavor-of-the-month. Will it stick around? Only time will tell.

My guess is that we'll see a lot of new niche-specific social platforms launching, which match similar niches as those of traditional media brands (e.g., sports, entertainment, travel, etc.) At the moment, Pinterest feels a bit like Better Home & Gardens, wiith a dash of Glamour.

There's also something like GetGlue, the social network for entertainment. GetGlue's user base has skyrocketed over the past six months, and it seems like a social network for movies/tv/books/music aficionados seems only logical ... something like Entertainment Weekly meets Facebook.
