Facebook- Helpful or Harmful in Teacher/Student Relationship?

Facebook has become a staple in most people’s lives at this point. However, is it going too far for a teacher to friend a student on Facebook?  While being friends on Facebook may enhance the student/teacher relationship, it could have disastrous benefits as well. My thoughts on this are simple- if you choose to have anyone from your professional life in your social media world (in this case Facebook) then you need to make sure the personal aspects of your social media world do not harm your professional reputation. If it may, you can always create dual accounts for all your social media networks (1 professional and 1 personal). What are your thoughts on this?
